ACCUMULATIONS: AN ARCHIVE

From treasured heirlooms to everyday items, the objects that fill and furnish our homes are brimming with stories – both personal and historical. A simple domestic chair for instance may start its journey as a tool used for sitting, but with time and use it will inevitably inherit the memories, experiences and associations of its users.

In conjunction with my exhibition, Of Stuff, which was presented at Fort Gallery from December 11 2020 - Feb 7 2021, I invited audience members to submit photographs of personal objects, along with anecdotes, descriptions, and memories that capture the emotional lives of our physical possessions. We dived into these stories during a live virtual show and tell hosted over Zoom on January 29, 2021.

Throughout the exhibition, these contributions were printed and assembled into an accordion-style book that were displayed in the center of the gallery space. The book grew as more submissions were received— bringing personal objects into the public sphere and fostering a unique and intimate dialogue surrounding material culture. For those who couldn’t make it to the gallery in person, I updated this page with submissions as they were received.

Thanks so much for all those who participated!
